What is a browser? Well it is…
I have been working in the tech industry for over 10 years and seen it all. Most people don’t pay attention to upgrades to software or web browsers unless they reminded (Norton Antivirus does a great job of reminding its clients) online or a “techie friend” has told them to use another browser than that “e” on the computer. But according to a highly-informal Google poll conducted this April, fewer than 8% of Times Square bystanders knew what a web browser was. This video was done by Google while promoting Chrome (Google’s browser), but I am always a fan of the man/woman on the street videos.
Just a quick plug: I am using the new Safari 4 on Mac OS X and it rocks. I rely on Firefox for inspecting and updating web sites and plug-ins, but for everyday browsing you can’t get a better browser in my humble opinon. According to some early reports Internet Explorer 8 is the fastest, but we will just wait and see.
If you really want browser-overload look here for the ever expanding list of web browsers. And for my web developers you will get a kick out of this cartoon, lampooning Internet Explorer 6, may your clients always upgrade their browsers.
